Adventure Tours fitness info link Maximum Walks: Hikes up to 6-8kms per day. A reasonable level of fitness is required as there will be some walking to view places of interest. Suitable for soft adventures with a passion for bushwalking and exploring the wonders of Kakadu and Litchfield.

ITINERARY

Notes:
* Itinerary may vary and/or attractions be substituted due to seasonal conditions, Traditional Owner and national park requirements.
* Days 1-3 are operated by Adventure Tours Australia and Days 5-8 are operated by Desert Venturer.
* Luggage limit of max 15kgs in a backpack and a daypack.

Day 1 - Darwin to Mary River
See the falls of Litchfield National Park before arriving at the Mary River Wetlands. This afternoon look for ‘crocs’ and other wildlife on our private river cruise. Arrive at Point Stuart Wilderness Lodge for dinner and overnight camp. (LD)

Day 2 - Mary River to Kakadu
We call in at Mamukala Wetlands then head to the awesome Jim Jim Falls to take a walk to the base of the falls before continuing on to Twin Falls. Here we join a National Park operated boat and boardwalk experience up the stunning gorge to the waterfall where you can relax on the sandy bank. We drive on to Kakadu for dinner and our overnight camp. (BLD)

Day 3 - Kakadu to Darwin
Our first stop is Ubirr where we discover ancient Aboriginal rock art. We continue our journey to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), where we do some hiking and enjoy a refreshing dip in the plunge pools. We then return to Darwin, enjoying the impressive scenery along the way. (BL) Overnight dorm accommodation included (no meals)

Day 4 - Darwin
Spend a relaxing day in Darwin. Overnight dorm accommodation included. (No meals)

Day 5 - Darwin to Cape Crawford
An early morning departure from Darwin takes us down to Adelaide River to visit the ex movie star “Charlie the water buffalo”. We then continue travelling through Katherine to reach Mataranka for lunch and a refreshing swim in this natural spring. The historic Daly Waters pub is our next stop, famous in Australia for its wacky humorous character like no other pub! Our overnight destination tonight is the Heartbreak Hotel at Cape Crawford, regarded as one of the most remote pubs in Oz. (LD)

Day 6 - Cape Crawford to Adels Grove
After spending a night of remoteness and amazing stargazing we farewell the Heartbreak Hotel. Today sees us negotiate 500km of unsealed roads, numerous river crossings and some of the most spectacular scenery this part of Australia has to offer. We travel through the “Gulf Country”, one of 8 Tropical Savannah Regions that are found in Australia, 4 of which we pass through between Darwin and Cairns. We travel through many cattle stations, Woologorang one of the largest at 1.7 million acres, as well as making stops at the Queensland/Northern Territory border and Hells Gate Roadhouse. We arrive at Adels Grove late afternoon, where time is allowed to cool off with a swim or just relax after a great day of travel. Accommodation at Adels Grove is permanent camp sites (BLD)

Day 7 - Adels Grove to Croydon
This morning we visit the beautiful Lawn Hill Gorge (Boodjamulla), one of Queensland’s most scenic National Parks. Featuring spectacular gorges and sandstone ranges, this “oasis” with its spring water and surrounding vegetation attract an abundance of wildlife. Time is allowed to view aboriginal rock art on the many hiking tracks, cool off with a swim or explore the gorge by canoe (own expense). After departing Lawn Hill, we travel to Gregory Downs (population 9!) and enjoy a picnic lunch beside the peaceful Gregory River with its wide sandy banks & cool clear water. The Burke & Wills Roadhouse is our next stop to refuel & stretch our legs, before continuing on to the old gold mining town of Croydon. Our accommodation is the Club Hotel, a pub with lots of charm & character.(BLD)

Day 8 - Croydon to Cairns
We continue through the Gulf Savannah region this morning, passing through small and interesting gold towns on the way. You will then notice an extreme change in landscape and vegetation as we enter the tropical Atherton Tablelands. Lunch today will be at Millstream Falls, before continuing on to Wooroonooren National Park, following then by a 2 hour relaxed introduction rainforest walk, which leads us to the breathtaking Nandroya Falls, where we cool off with a swim. Evening arrival into Cairns is followed with dinner to say goodbye to our fellow travelling companions, after venturing across “The Real Australia”. (BLD)
